Terms of use

These are the rules for using SaltBrite. By making an account you agree to them. They're short and they're in plain English, so please do read them. If you don't agree with something here, don't join, or tell us what bothers you.

What SaltBrite is

SaltBrite is a place for models, photographers, studios, stylists and makeup artists to show their work and find each other. We host profiles and photos. We don't arrange shoots, take bookings, handle payments or vouch for anyone. What happens between members is between members.

Who can join

You must be 18 or over. You must give a real email address and keep it working, because we use it to verify your account and to tell you about it. One person, one account, unless we've agreed otherwise. Keep your password to yourself; what's done from your account is your responsibility until you tell us it has been used by someone else.

A profile only goes public after one of us has looked at it, and we can decline it. We don't have to give a reason, though we usually will.

Your photos and what you can upload

Upload only work you made or have the right to use. If a photographer took it, you need their permission to put it on your profile, and if a model is in it, the photographer needs theirs. Releases and permissions are your business to sort out, not ours.

Everyone shown in a photo must have been 18 or over when it was taken. This is not negotiable and we remove accounts over it.

Artistic nudity is allowed. Every photo that contains nudity must be marked as such when you upload it, so that it sits behind a warning and never appears on the home page, in share previews or as your main photo. Nothing pornographic or sexually explicit is allowed, marked or not. If you're not sure which side of the line a photo falls, it's the wrong side.

Don't upload photos of people who haven't agreed to be shown, photos taken from someone else's portfolio, or anything that would break the law to publish.

What we do with your photos

You keep the copyright in everything you upload. So that the site can work, you give us permission to store your photos, make resized and cropped copies, and show them on SaltBrite: on your profile, on each photo's page, and where the site promotes members, such as the home page and, later, search results. That permission ends for a photo when you delete it, apart from copies that browsers and caches keep for a while. We won't sell your photos, license them to anyone else or use them in advertising off the site without asking you.

How to behave

Comments are for talking about the work, and messages are for arranging it. Don't harass, threaten or demean anyone, don't post anyone's private details, and don't use comments or messages to sell things or to spam members. If someone doesn't reply, or blocks you, leave it there. Don't use the site to approach anyone under 18, to send unwanted sexual messages, or to pressure a member into work they've not agreed to. Don't scrape the site, hammer it with requests, or try to get into accounts or pages that aren't yours.

If you see something that breaks these rules, use the report link on the photo, the comment, the message or the review. We read every report. We may remove content, suspend an account or close it, and we may do so without warning where the case is clear.

Reviews

You can review a member you've worked with. Write only about work you actually did together, and keep it honest and about the work. Keep money disputes out of it, and don't write anything personal or threatening. Reviews are public under your username. The member you review can reply, and anyone can report a review. We may hide one that breaks these terms, and we don't have to tell you why.

Meeting other members

A profile on SaltBrite means someone has an account, no more. We don't check identities, references or safeguarding records. Before you work with someone, do your own checks: look at their other work, ask for references, tell someone where you'll be, and take a friend or chaperone to a first shoot. Agree money, usage and what will and won't be shot before the day, in writing. If something goes wrong, we'll help where we can, but we're not a party to your arrangement and we can't enforce it.

Our service

SaltBrite is new and is opening in stages. Features will change, some will appear, and a few may go. We aim to keep the site up but we don't promise it, and we may take it down for maintenance or for good. If we ever close the site we'll give members a reasonable chance to download their photos first.

Ending your account

You can leave any time. There isn't a button for it yet, so message us and we'll close the account and delete what's on it. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or where we reasonably think it's being used to harm someone, and we can remove any photo or comment. If we close your account for breaking the rules you may not open another.

Liability

We provide the site as it is. We don't promise it will be free of errors, that a photo will never be lost, or that anyone you meet through it will be who they say they are. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for loss or damage that comes from using the site, from anything a member does, or from the site being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law says can't be excluded. If you're a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.

Copyright complaints

If a photo on SaltBrite is yours and you didn't give permission for it, contact us with the address of the photo and enough to show it's yours. We'll take it down while we look into it.

Changes

We'll update these terms as the site grows. The date at the top says when. For a change that affects what you can do or what we can do with your content, we'll email members before it takes effect. Carrying on using the site after that means you accept the change.

The legal bit

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts there have jurisdiction over any dispute, without taking away any protection you have as a consumer where you live. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stands. Our privacy policy and cookie policy are part of these terms.
